BORN AT DAWN STYLE TIP- WARDROBE HEROES

Before having children, I used to spend a lot of time thinking about what I wore and how I looked. I worked and had always been interested in fashion so it didn’t feel like a chore, I enjoyed it.

Then after having my first daughter, then my second daughter and trying to juggle kids with work, family, trying to be a good partner and spending time with friends, I suddenly found it hard to look as presentable as I did before. I had such little time to dedicate to it. Unfortunately, I’ve never been one for planning my outfit in detail the night before either because, by the end of the day, I just want to relax. With my lifestyle change and how busy I was, I needed more practical clothes, pieces that were comfortable but still always looked good.

I soon realised that the way I dressed for my everyday life needed to change. In the same way, I had my go-to makeup routine for every day- I needed a go-to capsule wardrobe with streamlined choices to be able to get dressed in a hurry but still look good. The key to this, I believe is good quality basics as your wardrobe core that you can layer your well-selected statement pieces with.

Whilst curating the collection for BORN AT DAWN, I built a collection of core pieces that every woman should have in her wardrobe as her basis for her everyday outfits and these are as follows:

• The Perfect Vest for layering under shirts, blazers and knitwear.
• Simple Tee. We have the perfect round neck tee in pima cotton for just £15 that is great wearing by itself and under many pieces but also is fantastic to layer under strappy tops or dresses to make them more pared down for the daytime. If you prefer a more rock-y look or want a v-neck to elongate, we also have the lovely step hem t-shirt too which is really flattering.
• Turtleneck Top is great by itself, layered up, under dungarees and is perfect for making sleeveless tops or dresses suitable for colder days.
• Pyjama Neck Black Top. Perfect for pairing with any trousers or denim, we love how it’s longer at the back with a step hem so creates interest and gives you more coverage.
• Silk Cami. A luxe top with a flattering v-neck at the front and back. The fabric is beautiful quality and it is lined to ensure a smooth fit- we love how you can still wear a regular bra with this too as not too strappy.
• Leather Leggings. Every girl should have them in her wardrobe as they always make you feel special. This pair from Selected Femme is higher waisted to give smooth lines and has unfinished hems so can be easily cut to the correct length- perfect if you are more petite.
• Coated Jeans. For the days you want a leather look but the feel of a jean. Perfect for a relaxed day off.
• Perfect Jeggings. Everybody that tries these, loves them. They come in navy, black or grey and are high waisted so pull you in a little and are stretchy but the denim is substantial so you always feel comfortable in them. We often wear these with a vest or tee with a blazer or oversized shirt over the top.
• Boyfriend Jeans. The ultimate in off-duty denim, this pair looks great slightly rolled up and is cropped ankle length.
• Chinos. After visiting Denmark a couple of years ago- we saw chinos in a whole new light and fell in love with them after seeing so many Scandi girls wearing them. Worn minimally, they look so fresh and are perfect with trainers or flats. Our pair by Selected Femme come in navy or black and can be rolled up to give a laid-back feel and to adjust length easily.
