BORN AT DAWN LIFE: HOW TO BE A MORNING PERSON

Are you a morning person or a night owl? I’m definitely a night owl at heart but as I got older with busy mornings and kids that are early risers, I’ve needed to adapt a little to try and avoid the permanently exhausted pigeon state where possible.

I’ve recently started writing a weekly plan at the beginning of the week and planning my to-do’s by day in advance so I get a head start and know what my focus is each day. I also used to procrastinate a little and sometimes leave important things towards the end of the day but I’ve become better at forcing myself to “eat the frog” and do the most difficult and urgent things first each day and feel a lot better for it.

I also try to start each day positively and have written my own affirmations for the day which I remind myself of each morning before I start work which get me in the right frame of mind. If you haven’t done this before then a podcast like Affirmation Pod is a good place to start.

A little exercise also helps. Since getting a puppy, after I drop the girls off at school and take her for a little walk which seems to wake me up and put me in a better mood. I’ve also heard great things about the lovely Jemma's Health Hub and her daily morning workouts so that is a great option too and I’m planning on joining one of her future intakes.

I recently read a great article by Career Girl Daily about how to be more energetic in the morning and here are some of their tips below.

  1. Make a list every morning of 5 things you are grateful for. When you feel happy- your brain releases chemicals that give you an energy boost.
  2. Don’t skip breakfast and curb the caffeine. Starting your day with a coffee creates a cycle of energy crashes and needing more so try a herbal tea or smoothie instead.
  3. Plan in breaks throughout the day including the morning to help your attention span and be realistic with your to-do list. Don’t try to do an unachievable amount as you will just feel demotivated.

How do you start your day the right way? We would love to hear your tips. Please share below…
